Calendar of Events What do members actually DO at the Club? The following represents a year's worth of activities. Click here to see what's going on THIS month. JANUARY A Civilized New Year's Eve - Entertainment by a pianist/ vocalist duo as you dine on our Chef's special menu selections. Varsity Croquet Awards Banquet - Attended by club members and guests. Black tie of course. FEBRUARY Valentines Day - Enjoy special dinners-for-two prepared by our Chef. Single Malt Scotch Tasting - Our most popular beverage tasting! Noted experts in the field explain the various regions (Highland, Lowland, Islay Malt, etc). Sample a variety and taste the difference! Spa Day - This one's for Ladie's only! Enjoy massage, steam, sauna, manicures, etc. and fabulous spa treatments at our downtown clubhouse. MARCH Easter Brunch - Features a fabulous buffet of traditional springtime favorites and classic ambience. For the children, the club hosts an egg hunt in the park. Brewmaster's Dinner - Beer/ale Tasting. Another popular event among members at which a variety of brews from ales and porters to stouts are sampled, tasted, and toasted.   APRIL Pool Loungers' Coffee - The Club serves Continental Breakfast and members will have the opportunity to meet with the Swim Team Coach. Swim Team Breakfast Come and meet this year's coach and staff. Sign up for swim team and join your friends!   MAY Mother's Day Brunch - A spectacular feast with live music in a lovely setting. Babysitting provided.     Memorial Day Pig Roast and Pool Opener Just what it sounds like! Considered the "Season Opener" for the poolside activities. Smoked and roasted down by the pool, and served with a variety of traditional accompaniments - and all for only $5!! Varsity Croquet Opener Brunch - Traditional Croquet Opening Match. All members and guests are welcome to play the game-right along side the Club's own Varsity members.   JUNE Swim Team Kickoff Banquet - Burgers and hot dogs grilled poolside. It's all you can eat at this family affair. Father's Day Brunch - A fabulous poolside buffet with a Caribbean twist - the Jimmy Buffet Buffet!   JULY Fourth of July by the Pool - Poolside for snacks, then on to the Cathedral to watch the fireworks! Dive-In Movie - the Club's own version of family night at the drive-in. Gatsby Garden Party - Poolside. Blackjack. Craps and Roulette provide and exciting evening after dinner. The Club "stakes" you with an initial $10,000 worth of "Funny Money" chips to gamble from 8:00 to 11:00. At 11:00 the tables are closed and the live auction begins. Items for auction include: T-shirts, memberships, dinners at the Club and W.A. Frost, bottles of wine, tennis lessons from our pro, etc.   AUGUST Swim Team Awards Banquet - Honoring our Swim Team. Awards for both individual merit and team effort. Children's Field Trips and Activities The club's stalwart pool staff organizes excursions to such favorites as Valley Fair, Wild Mountain Water Slide, etc.   SEPTEMBER Back to School Champagne Breakfast - Parents celebrate the return of their loved ones to school. Champagne Breakfast is exactly what they deserve! Polaroid Road Rally - A scavenger hunt for adults! Teams race against the clock to collect Polaroid shots documenting their presence at such sites as Mickey's Diner, the steps of the Cathedral, under a TCP sign, etc. It's a riot!   OCTOBER Oktoberfest - Welcome our member "travelers" to Oktoberfest. You'll find yourself surrounded by sumptuous German cooking. Oompah bands will march among the tables playing German tunes. Sample a variety of German beers and wines brought in expressly for this occasion. Neighborhood Halloween at the Griggs House - Club members decorate the Griggs House next door and turn it into the creepiest haunted house their imaginations can come up with. Replete with strobe lights, cobwebs and coffins, members dress appropriately and give all the neighborhood a treat!   NOVEMBER Beaujolais Nouveau - A French tradition. Sample France's first wine offerings of the year to the strains of the club chanteuse. Thanksgiving Dinner - Traditional turkey dinner with live music that compliments the festivities. Order your dinner here or "to go."   DECEMBER Brunch with Santa - This one's for the kids! During the course of the brunch, each child is photographed on Santa's lap, makes ornaments and partakes in other Christmas activities. Dickens London Christmas - Step back to the 1800's and the charm of Victorian England. Enjoy a string orchestra, strolling madrigal singers, horse-drawn carriage rides. After a Christmas feast, the University Club carollers meander down Summit Avenue, candles in hand, escorted by the madrigals. An event that captures the spirit of the season.
