University Club of St. Paul

Member Social Events

Throughout the year, University Club members and their guests are invited to enjoy special social events featuring buffets, cocktails, dancing, and live music. There's never an occasion too small to celebrate!

Holidays

  • Valentine's Day
    • Members share the special day with their fiance, spouse, or special friend with a delicious multi-course dinner in the Ramsey Room. Every candle is lit, rose petals are sprinkled on your table, and a strolling violinist completes the mood with romantic music.
  • Easter Brunch
    • The University Club celebrates Easter with a delicious Sunday brunch buffet, fresh floral arrangments, colorful table settings, and a visit from the Easter Bunny! Children enjoy a petting zoo and Easter egg hunt on the lawn of the Griggs House

  • Mother's Day
    • The University Club helps members celebrate motherhood with two events: a spring-themed brunch buffet and a multi-course dinner and live music. In honor of the holiday, every mom receives a special gift!
  • Memorial Day Pig Roast & Pool Opener
    • The Memorial Day Pig Roast and pool opener kicks off the summer at the University Club. Members always look forward to gathering for the poolside picnic and (hopefully) some rays after the long winter, and of course a dip in the pool.
  • Labor Day Corn Roast
    • The Labor Day Corn Roast and poolside picnic marks the end of summer activities at the University Club. It's a time to celebrate the summer's experiences and gear up for school and other fall activities.
  • Thanksgiving
    • Thanksgiving decorations and live music greet members and guests as they enter the lobby of the Summit Avenue clubhouse for one of two Thanksgiving meals: a scrumptious luncheon buffet or a sit-down dinner featuring turkey and all the traditional trimmings.

  • Santa Brunch
    • Always a favorite at the University Club, the Santa Brunch is a holiday tradition. Members bring their children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews to celebrate the holiday season and visit with our Victorian Santa. Children decorate their own gingerbread cookie and will receive a special poster personalized with their photo with Santa. There is always an abundance of good cheer and lots of candy canes at this event!
  • New Year's Eve
    • Celebrating at the University Club is the perfect way to start the new year. Members come together for a romantic and festive sit-down dinner.  The Chef creates a six -course tasting menu to bring in the new year.

  • Halloween at the Griggs House
    • An annual event, Halloween is a spooky but fun time to visit the University Club's neighborhood. The Griggs House (next door to the University Club) "comes alive" as Saint Paul's greatest haunted house where trick-or-treaters are greeted by skeletons, witches, goblins, and other apparitions handing out delicious Halloween morsels.

Social Events

  • Ice Martini Bar

    • Extremely popular with University Club members, the annual Ice Martini Bar event is held every Winter and showcases a seven-foot long bar carved completely from ice. The creative martini menu offers guests a choice of nine different specialty martinis, all of which are well-paired with the complimentary hors d'oeuvres.

  • Scotch Tasting
    • This very popular event will celebrate its 20th year in 2012! The scotch tasting features a selection of single malt scotches from several notable distilleries such as Glenrothes, Macallan, Laphroaig, Glenmorangie and Talisker. A knowledgeable representative guides participants through the history of scotch will they sip the varieties and enjoy nuts, chocolates and hors d'oeuvres.
  • Oktoberfest
    • Oktoberfest takes place in mid-October on a Friday evening and offers members the opportunity to try German beers, listen to a live German band (complete with accordion!), and enjoy a buffet of traditional German fare such as pretzels and hot mustard, cold sausages, pickled herring and more.
  • Beaujolais Nouveau
    • At one minute past midnight on the third Thursday of each November, from little villages and towns in the Beaujolais region of France, over a million cases of Beaujolais Nouveau begin their journey through a sleeping France to Paris for immediate shipment to all parts of the world. There are nearly 4,000 grape growers who make their living in this picturesque region just north of France's third largest city, Lyon. All grapes in the Beaujolais region must be picked by hand. These are the only vineyards, along with Champagne, where hand harvesting is Mandatory.

This is one of the University Club's most popular and festive events. Cases of the new wine stock the bar, with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and a six-course tasting menu available.
  • Dickens' London Christmas and Fezziwig Ball
    • One of the club's most popular events, the Dickens' London Christmas and Fezziwig Ball is held mid-December every year and constitutes a great holiday tradition at the club. Following a champagne and hors d'oeuvres reception at the next-door Griggs Mansion, where members are greeted by the Fezziwigs, the club's guests continue to the Summit clubhouse for the lavish Christmas buffet feast and live music.
